Lesson 17: Lines and Movement (Motion)
The instructor reviews that direction implies motion, and motion in drawing, is largely indicated by lines:
- Vertical lines express stillness.
- Horizontal lines indicate repose.
- Oblique lines suggest movement.
- Curved lines express grace.
- Parallel lines suggest order.
- Angular lines suggest chaos.
Children study the image and complete the following drill work:
- Point to the lines of the poplar tree in A, that represent stillness and repose.
- Point to the lines in B that represent motion.
- Represent stillness by a poplar tree.
- Represent motion by a poplar tree.
- Represent the wind blowing by the trees in C.
- Represent the wind blowing by the trees in D.
- Represent the wind blowing by the trees in E.
